Max Thabiso Edkins Climate Ambassador Program 2024

The World Bank’s Youth-to-Youth Community’s Global Youth Climate Network announced, in collaboration with Connect4Climate, the continuation of the Max Thabiso Edkins Climate Ambassador Program and the launch of a brand-new call for applications at a dedicated World Bank Pavilion side event at COP28!Max Thabiso Edkins was an incredible climate leader with a love for young empowerment, and this initiative was designed as a meaningful way to memorialize his legacy.

The MTECAP is a six-month online program that enables participants to interact with one another, learn from World Bank experts and GYCN and C4C partners, and take effective climate action both locally and globally. A mix of technical and hands-on sessions equips ambassadors with in-depth knowledge and understanding of climate change as well as guidance on how to creatively communicate this knowledge for both local and worldwide audiences.

Benefits:

  • If chosen as an ambassador, you’ll be asked to Learn new skills and strategies, Act in your community using the techniques you study, Network with the other ambassadors in your cohort, and Engage in good faith with all the training sessions and educational resources that will be available to you throughout the program.
  • By the end of the six months, each participant will be expected to have attended a specified number of learning sessions and implemented three concrete actions in their community. Meeting these criteria will entitle you to graduate, receive a certificate of completion, and join the burgeoning MTECAP alumni network!

Requirements:

  • Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35, have strong conversational English language skills, and have reliable access to the internet. Beyond these foundational requirements, applicants will be evaluated on each of the following criteria:
  • Past and current experience as a youth leader in communities at the local, regional, national, or global level.
    • Demonstrated ability to organize community activities is an advantage.
  • Passion for climate solutions and sustainable development, and motivation to take action and empower others.
    • We are looking for self-starters willing to take charge.
  • Scale and strength of the applicant’s network and active presence on social media.
  • The potential impact of the applicant’s proposed contributions to their communities and networks.
