YALI RLC Southern Africa Emerging Leaders Program – Cohort 23 & Online Cohort 19

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is a hallmark initiative to invest in Africa’s future generation of leaders. The University of South Africa hosts the YALI Regional Leadership Center Southern Africa (RLC SA) at the Graduate School of Business Leadership in Midrand, South Africa. The RLC SA seeks to develop critical thinkers capable of solving complex, interdisciplinary challenges, as well as to cultivate entrepreneurial and innovative thinking and to promote cross-border communication and intercultural collaboration. The RLC SA helps young African leaders improve their talents by providing basic training in modern African challenges as well as specialized training in three main areas: business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership, and public management.

Eligibility

  • Age (18-35)
  • Demonstrated commitment to positively impact their communities, countries, and the African continent
  • Proven experience and track record in Public Management, Business, Entrepreneurship, or Civic Leadership
  • Citizenship of: Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Lesotho, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, or Zimbabwe.
  • Ability to commit to a two-weeks online and three-weeks residential programme
  • English language proficiency

The program encourages application from:

  • Rural based and economically disadvantaged young leaders
  • Young leaders with disabilities
  • Women
  • People who are HIV positive or who are living with AIDS
  • Individuals that represent and advocate for the rights of LGBTIQ communities across the region
  • Other minority groups
  •  English language proficiency

The cohort 23 is hybrid, consisting of both online (11 Mar – 22 Mar 2024) and in-resident (08 Apr – 26 Apr 2024) & Online Cohort 19 is fully online (26 Feb – 12 Apr 2024)
