Fellowships

California Health Equity Impact Fund 2023 for Journalists (up to $10,000)

Deadline: 18th of November, 2022

The California Health Equity Impact Fund was created for journalists who have bold ideas and want to make a difference by uncovering untold tales about the structural problems that prevent California families and communities from enjoying good health.

Participating reporters can anticipate finishing this programme with a sizable investigative or explanatory project, supported by a significant grant and five months of professional mentoring.

The Center for Health Journalism’s Impact Reporting methodology, which combines compelling stories, facts, and community involvement to work as a change-agent, is advanced by this initiative. Previous grantees transformed the dialogue about poorly covered health topics through their reporting, inspiring new policies, practises, and laws in their communities.

Grant

  • Grantees receive:
    • A $2,000-$10,000 stipend to help with reporting costs
    • Five months of professional mentorship from a veteran journalist
    • Monthly online development and brainstorming sessions with other reporters in their class.
  • Grantees also are eligible to apply for five months of professional mentorship in engaged journalism and $1,000-$2,000 to support those creative efforts.
