United Nations Transforming Education Summit 2022

Deadline: 9th of September 2022

The UN Secretary-General has announced that the Transforming Education Summit (TES) will take place in September during the high-level week of the General Assembly. It will occur on September 19, 2022, on Leaders Day. This will be followed by TES: Mobilization Day on September 16, and TES: Solutions Day on September 17, both on the following weekends. On these TES Solutions Day, which will take place at the UN headquarters, the five Thematic Action Tracks of the Summit will be the subject of discussions and activities. These events and meetings will be organized by the Member States, the UN system, Intergovernmental Organizations, and other Stakeholders, such as non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and members of Civil Society.

Benefits

  • The Transforming Education Summit highlights five topics (“Thematic Action Tracks”) as needing more focus and action to advance the 2030 Agenda for Education and reform education.
  • Based on research findings, a compilation of best practices, extensive consultations, and debates at the Transforming Education Pre-Summit, each Thematic Action Track prepared a discussion paper that outlined the fundamental aspects of transformation and significant suggestions.
  • All seminars and events on TES: Solutions Day should further this goal, which is to organize group efforts and actions around specific Thematic Action Tracks.
  • A small number of seminars with a more interdisciplinary focus will be held.

Eligibility Criteria

  • To mobilize group activities for change, relying on the salient suggestions of the relevant discussion papers, all suggested sessions and events should be explicitly and substantively related to one of the Thematic Action Tracks of the Transforming Education Summit:

– Schools that are inclusive, egalitarian, secure, and healthy.
– Education and training for sustainable growth, employment, and life.
– Education: Teachers, instruction, and the profession.
– Digital transformation and learning.
– Financing of education.

  • A few sessions, like the one on education governance, are more interdisciplinary in character.
  • In close collaboration with the Deputy Secretary General, the Summit Secretariat will choose the sessions and activities. The sessions and events will be chosen in accordance with the Summit’s goals and those of its Solutions Day, guaranteeing geographical diversity and fair treatment of a variety of subjects.
  • Events that propose, start, or scale up specific projects to put the suggestions of the Thematic Action Track discussion papers into action will be given priority.
  • The sessions and events may be co-organized by the Member States, Intergovernmental Organizations (IGOs), UN bodies, and other stakeholders, such as NGOs and members of civil society.
  • Each event shall be co-organized by at least three organizations, including two Member States and one UN agency, in light of the abovementioned goal. To act as the primary communication channel, choose one organization as the lead co-organizer.
  • Due to the high volume of proposals expected, only ONE proposal per entity functioning as a lead co-organizer will be taken into consideration. Any of the co-organizing Member States or organizations can fill this position.
  • Co-organizers are urged to ensure that the speakers are diverse in terms of geography and gender and to include at least one youth representative.
  • Each session or event might last 45, 60, or 90 minutes. The length of the event should be respected, and the transition to the subsequent sessions or circumstances should be given enough time at the conclusion so that everything proceeds as scheduled.
