Restless Development’s Safe Photography Project Contest 2024

 Deadline: 19th of April, 2024

The goal of Restless Development is to disrupt the perspective on a problem that affects half of the world’s girls and boys by recruiting twelve young photographers to join the campaign to prevent violence against children.

The views of youth must be at the forefront of the discussion when world leaders gather in Colombia in November for the first-ever Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children. In order to link Ministers with the reality of young people, Restless Development will collaborate with conference co-hosts the World Health Organization, the governments of Colombia and Sweden, UNICEF, and the UN Special Representative on ending violence.

Eligibility:

  • Restless Development is looking to find 12 young creatives (aged 18-24), from all regions of the world, who will each produce a photo-essay telling the story of what “safe” feels like to them and/or other children and young people in their community.
  • Of the photographs captured by each creative, one striking ‘hero’ image will be featured in the final exhibition, taking centre stage at the historic Ministerial, with the full photo-essay published online through a global media outlet.

Benefits:

For the 12 chosen participants, the following benefits await:

  • A stipend of $1250 to support your involvement in the project.
  • Comprehensive training, mentorship, and individual guidance throughout the project.
  • Exhibition of one of your images at the global Ministerial Conference in November.
  • Publication of your final photo-essay online, potentially reaching national and global audiences.

Application:

  • The pitch must be submitted by Friday, 19th April. If you have any queries regarding the Safe photography competition, please email them to:

safe@restlessdevelopment.org

  • All submissions will be reviewed by an expert panel of photojournalists, media editors, violence survivors, campaigners and young people from across and beyond Restless Development’s global network.
