Mwele Malecela Mentorship Programme for Women in Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) 2023

Deadline: 15th of January, 2022

The Mwele Malecela Mentorship Programme for Women in Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) 2023 is now accepting applications. Mid-career African women are supported by the Mwele Malecela Mentorship (MMM) Programme for Women in Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) to become leaders and advocates in NTD eradication at the national and international levels.

The MMM programme’s aim is to increase the overall coverage, effectiveness, and impact of NTD interventions by ensuring the support to enable women to overcome gender barriers in access to leadership while also acquiring skills and resources that enable them to be effective leaders and agents of change. This is done by using an innovative gender-intentional approach. A group of collaborators under the direction of the WHO Regional Office for Africa are carrying out the initiative.

Programs that address the many and overlapping kinds of prejudice that obstruct women’s growth in leadership roles are given priority under the gender-intentional approach to mentoring. In this sense, the Mwele Malecela Mentorship Programme is dedicated to choosing diverse cohort members from a variety of disciplines, public, corporate, academic, NGO, and philanthropic sectors.

Program Information:

Over the course of two years, the program will offer mentoring, training, and networking opportunities. The MMM Programme will offer advice and tools to help mentees and mentors, with the help of their partners, get off to a strong start by understanding their roles and the crucial skills required for a successful mentoring partnership. Topics covered include trust building, giving and receiving feedback, and effective conversation tools and techniques to help mentees and mentors take their learning “to the next level.”

Additionally, midpoint sessions will provide mentees and mentors the chance to evaluate their progress, exchange best practices, and deepen their commitment to the procedure. They will also use their Monthly Engagement Email Blasts, which are monthly emails sent to both mentees and mentors, to keep the relationship on track, encourage communication, and support partnership effectiveness. The time commitment expected of mentees to engage with their mentors during the two years will be, on average, 1-2 hours a month.
