Mercatus Center’s Elinor Ostrom Fellowship 2024 – 2025

The Elinor Ostrom Fellowship at the Mercatus Center is a one-year competitive fellowship program open to PhD students from any university and any subject, including but not limited to economics, philosophy, political science, and sociology.

The goal of this fellowship is to expose students to the themes of markets, culture, morality, and sociality found in the Austrian, Virginia, and Bloomington schools of political economy, as well as to provide them with the tools they need to use this framework in academic research that explores these themes.During the academic year, Elinor Ostrom Fellows attend three weekends of colloquia on these three schools of political economics.Fellows will be part of a network of Mercatus students, graduates, and academics undertaking and participating in cutting-edge research in modern political economy.

Benefits:

The total award of up to $7,000 includes:

  • A stipend
  • All required readings
  • Travel and lodging to attend colloquia hosted by the Mercatus Center

  • A 1-2 page cover letter explaining:
    • your graduate school career to date,
    • your research interests and current projects, and
    • how your research and current projects would benefit from a greater understanding of the themes of markets, culture, morality, and sociality within the Austrian, Virginia and Bloomington schools of political economy
  • A current resume/CV
  • A few short answer questions

Application review will begin after the deadline, and we anticipate decisions will begin to be announced approximately eight to twelve weeks after the deadline.
