The King Baudouin Foundation (KBF) is a non-profit organization that is both autonomous and pluralistic. Its purpose is straightforward yet complex: to transform society and enhance people’s living situations. The KBF is a European foundation based in Brussels that primarily operates in Belgium and Europe. In Africa, the Foundation focuses on Benin, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Senegal, and Togo, but it also supports activities in over 40 other countries.

The King Baudouin Foundation United States (KBFUS), based in New York City, enables intelligent, effective donating to Europe and Africa. KBFUS lets US contributors to support their favorite causes throughout the world while also providing European and African NGOs with cost-effective ways to generate contributions in the US. KBFUS has arranged approximately $60 million in contributions over the last three years, reaching nearly every part of Europe and Africa.

KBF CANADA is a charity organization registered with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) that strives to assist people, families, corporations, and foundations in supporting charitable causes that are important to them throughout the world through a personal and effective approach. KBF CANADA collaborates with Canadian contributors to carry out philanthropic initiatives throughout North America, Africa, Asia, Europe, and Central and South America.

The KBF Africa Award recognizes African organizations that make a long-term difference in the lives of Africans. The Award is given every other year and aims to bring public attention to the many inspiring tales, difficulties, and accomplishments emerging from Africa. Apart from the monetary prize of €200,000, it provides its recipients with unique opportunity to expand their profile and promote their cause to international audiences. The influence of the Award is proved to be far more than monetary. An impartial Selection Committee comprised of 12 distinct international specialists meticulously selects the KBF Africa Award recipient.

 Eligibility:

  •  the candidate should be an African-initiated and led organization.
  • the candidate should have a proven track-record of impact to sustainably improve the lives of people in Africa.
  • the organization’s realizations must contribute to societal transformation.
    working towards a more inclusive society, that contributes to more gender equality.
  • the organization’s initiatives need to be embedded at local level.
    they can be replicated elsewhere on the continent and/or
    worldwide.
  •  the organization needs a capable leadership to fulfil its mission and to carry a strong message for both decision-makers and the general public.
    the candidate demonstrates resilience and adaptability in a constantly changing context.
  • the candidate subscribes to KBF’s values: integrity and transparency; pluralism and independence; respect for diversity; promotion of solidarity.
  • the financial management needs to be healthy and transparent, audited financial reports need to be available.
