Internet Hall of Fame 2023

The Internet Society (ISOC) presents honorary lifetime achievement awards known as the Internet Hall of Fame (est. 2012) to people who have made outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the Internet.

A select collection of visionaries, intellectuals, and leaders have been inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame for their exceptional contributions to the conception, construction, and growth of the Internet on a worldwide scale.

We want to hear from you if you know someone who has made a significant contribution to creating and expanding the Internet. The 2023 award nomination period has begun. A ceremony in September will announce and celebrate the inductees.

The Internet as we know it today is the result of the efforts of many individuals working hard in many different locations throughout the world.

Mathematicians and engineers who designed, planned, created, and linked the first networks are among them. Next came the time and direction that policymakers gave to fostering the development of these networks. Systems for granting public access were developed by computer scientists, programmers, and developers. Experts in education, information and communications technology (ICT), and other fields have helped individuals learn how to utilize the Internet and broaden its reach. supporters and academics who created strategies for managing and maintaining the Internet as it changes. And security professionals who have kept it secure despite growing dangers to it and to us.

The Internet Society established the Internet Hall of Fame in 2012 to honor the contributions of this community. The Internet Hall of Fame commemorates Internet history, recognizes the forerunners who made it possible, and motivates the subsequent generation of Internet champions via a spectacular event conducted every two years.

The decision of who will be inducted into the program and its long-term growth are heavily influenced by the Internet Hall of Fame Advisory Board. They review and choose the nominees for induction in addition to directing the program’s expansion and development.

According to Andrew Sullivan, CEO of the Internet Society, “The growth of the Internet is a narrative of many, many contributions. Every person in the Internet Hall of Fame contributed significantly to that history. The Internet Society is concerned about telling and preserving these tales.

Eligibility:

  • Individuals are eligible for nomination if they have significantly helped create, develop, or expand the global Internet. This includes individuals working in visible or behind-the-scenes roles.
  • Criteria For Evaluation
    Impact
    Impact on the development or growth of the Internet that is directly related to its advancement or evolution
  • Influence
    Influence over society at large, the work of others in the field, the next generation, or another important group.
  • Reach
    Reach related to the expansion of the Internet to bridge the digital divide and enrich people’s lives with global impact or within key audiences or specific geographies.
  • Innovation
    Innovation in creating new paradigms, eliminating obstacles, or accelerating advancements for the Internet.

 

 

 Application:

  • Start by completing the nomination form. Then, you need to include three endorsement letters from three different endorsers.
  • The letters should come from people with various perspectives, both inside and outside the nominee’s geographic region and place of employment.
  • These can be current perspectives or reflect on the nominee during their Internet contribution.
