Registrations are invited for the International Earth Science Olympiad 2024 for students in Classes 9–12 by the Ministry of Earth Sciences and the Geological Society of India. The last date of registration is January 10, 2024.
The Geological Society of India has been organizing the Indian National Earth Science Olympiad (INESO) and International Earth Science Olympiads (IESO) with the entire support of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) and the Government of India for school students. The Indian team of students has been participating in IESO since 2007. The seventh IESO at Mysuru in 2013 was hosted in India.
The main purpose of the IESO is to create awareness about the origin of the universe, the evolution of life on Earth, and to encourage students and the public to take an interest in Earth sciences. One of the IESO’s competitions is ‘International Team Field Investigation (ITFI), wherein each team is comprised of students from different countries that is absolutely in line with Vasudhaiva Kutambakam’s ‘The Earth is indeed a Family’ to promote friendly relations among young students from different countries and international cooperation in the exchange of ideas for understanding the Earth System Process towards jointly resolving global challenges.
Stages of IESO:
- National Level Entrance Test (ET)
- Training camp and INESO (selection of the four-member team after a 3-week training programme)
- Pre-departure training camp (1 week)
- Participation in the IESO
Entrance Test:
An entrance test has been scheduled for Saturday, January 27, 2024, for 90 minutes at 10:30 a.m. in English and will comprise objective types of questions spanning geology, geophysics, meteorology, oceanography, terrestrial astronomy, and environmental science.
Eligibility:
- Will you be studying in IX, X, XI and XII in August 2024?
- Were you born after July 1, 2005?
- Would you like to participate in the International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO)?
