Deadline: 31st of January, 2023

The ICTP Associateship Scheme Programme 2023 is now accepting applications. The Associateship Scheme program is open to scientists from and employed by developing nations who wish to establish ongoing relationships with the ICTP’s vibrant research environment.

The International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) has sponsored the visits of more than 3,000 Junior, Regular, and Senior Associates since the Associateship Scheme’s inception in 1964. Many people have used their ICTP experience to advance their careers in science. For instance, ICTP Associate Omololu AkinOjo has been chosen to run the ICTP-East African Institute for Fundamental Research, the organization’s partner institute in Rwanda. Mary Teuw Niane, another ICTP Associate, serves as Senegal’s Minister of Higher Education and Research.

Cost:

The Associateship Scheme covers travel costs and provides a living allowance for
developing-world scientists to visit ICTP several times over a six-year period.

Eligibility:

All applicants must hold a PhD, come from or be working in a scientific institute in a
developing country. Awards given to scientists who move to an advanced country will be
suspended or cancelled.
Prospective candidates should complete the online application form between October 1 and
January 31 of the following year.
The age limit for Senior Associates is 65 years.

Application:

Candidates should request two senior scientists (preferably from an institute other than their own) who
are well acquainted with their work to send a recommendation letter in support of their application
addressing them to Dr. Ralph Gebauer, Head of the Office of Associates and Federated Institutes.
The deadline to apply, using ICTP’s online application system, is January 31, 2023. Successful applicants
will be able to visit ICTP starting in 2024.
