Fully-Funded Doctoral Scholarship Decrees by the University of Trento 2022-23

Scholarships are planned for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) research doctorates, public administration, cultural heritage, digital and environmental transition programs, and industrial doctorates, thanks to investments totaling 300 million euros. These decrees are real and concrete acts that put science and research at the center, the basis of the quality of university education, and, at the same time, the engine of the country’s development, both for the public administration and the private sector.
Furthermore, both schemes bestow an opportunity to use the grants awarded both to enhance existing doctoral courses and to activate new ones, individually or in consortia, also in the context of doctorates of national interest.

These two decrees are as follows:

 1. Ministerial Decree No. 351/2022 (First Scheme)

The University of Trento is launching a call for 37 additional scholarships co-funded by companies and the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), which calls for the allocation of new resources for doctoral research programs aimed at enhancing high-profile skills, particularly in the areas of Key Enabling Technologies.

The research projects related to each scholarship must:

  • Be capable of dealing with and filling the gender inequality gap,
  • Be consistent with the aims and purposes of EU Regulations 2021/241, the NRRP general strategy, and the specific National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) mission,
  • Be focused on accomplishing the objectives that the NRRP targets and milestones may have established;
  • Be in accordance with the “do not significant harm” (DNSH) concept outlined in Article 17 of EU Regulations 2020/852, as well as the technical guidelines issued by the European Commission (European Commission Notice 2021/C58/01),
  • Encourage women and young people to participate in the management of the NRRP.
Available applications for Doctoral Programs by the University of Trento are listed below:
  • Ph.D. Program in Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering 38th cycle – Call 2022.
  • Participation in National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) selection – additional scholarships a.y. 2022/2023 (38th Cycle).
  • National Doctoral Program in Space Science and Technology 38th cycle.
  • Participation in NRRP selection DM 352 – additional scholarships a.y. 2022/2023 (38th Cycle).

  • This scholarship award is Fully Funded and can exempt you from all the tuition fees and other relevant costs.

Requirements

  1. Applications for entrance to the selection process are welcomed from individuals of any gender, age, or nationality who possess the following qualifications:

An Italian (Master’s Degree) according to Ministerial Decree no. 270 of 22 October 2004, or a university degree awarded under the previous Italian regulations,
– Or a second-level degree awarded by an Italian “AFAM” Institute (Artistic and Musical Higher Education)
– Or an equivalent degree qualification obtained abroad (Master’s Degree) at a recognized academic institution.

    1. Applications are also accepted from candidates who do not hold the required degree but expect to obtain it by 31 October 2022.
    2. It is in the applicant’s best benefit to supply all items required for evaluation, especially if the educational system of the nation where the title was gained is inferior to that of Italy.

The Selection Committee will award a maximum of 100 points, of which

  • 40 points: For your Documents
  • 60 Points: For your interview

To be admitted to the oral examination, candidates must obtain a minimum score of 24/40 from the qualifications. The oral examination is considered passed with a minimum score of 36/60.

2. Ministerial Decree No. 352/2022 (Second Scheme)

The University of Trento is opening a call to assign no. 37 additional scholarships co-funded by companies and the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) according to the Ministerial Decree no. 352 of April 9, 2022 (hereinafter also “M.D.” or “Decree”), which foresees the assignment of new resources for doctoral research programs aiming at the enhancement of high-profile skills, especially in the areas of Key Enabling Technologies.

Doctoral Programs

  • Physics
  • Civil, Environmental, and Mechanical Engineering
  • Information Engineering and Computer Science
  • Industrial Innovation
  • Materials, mechanics, and System Engineering
  • Biomolecular Sciences

According to the M.D., admission to the scholarships covered by this call is also subject to the following requirements:

  • carrying out periods of study and research in a company from a minimum of six (6) months to a maximum of eighteen (18) months and periods of study and research abroad from a minimum of six (6) months to a maximum of eighteen (18) months,
  • the presentation every six months of a report indicating the time spent in the company, at the University, or abroad specifying the activities carried on during these months. The reporting will take place through a specific MUR online platform.
  • Applications are also accepted from candidates who do not hold the required degree but expect to obtain i, by 31 October 2022.
  • Other requirements are the same as the first decree.

All the remaining categories are the same as the ministerial decree 351/2022.

How to Apply

The application of both schemes are similar and must be completed and submitted through the online system.
Applicants can apply for these two programs by following the processes outlined below:

  1. Select the Doctoral Program of interest;
    – Log in following the instructions;
    – Fill in the forms providing the requested information and upload the documents specified in the Call;
    – Pay a €15.00 Application fee.
  2. With a UniTurento account: Those who already have this type of account can log in to their dashboard and apply to these two decrees of Trento University.
  3. The administration strongly advises candidates to ensure they have received the email verifying that their application has been completed and submitted. UniTrento declines responsibility for any applications that are not correctly closed by applicants.
  4. Applicants will be held entirely accountable for their applications. Incomplete or irregular applications, or applications submitted in methods other than those specified in this article, will be rejected, and candidates will be eliminated from the selection process.
  5. When completing the online application, candidates must choose the Doctoral Program or programs
  6. To access the registration procedure, it is recommended to use the SPID account (The Italian Public Digital Identity System), which automatically certifies the identity of the person through the UniTurento Systems and sets up an unitn.it account.
