For the Frederick Soddy Schools Award 2023, applications are now being accepted. The Frederick Soddy Trust became a connected charity of RGS-IBG in 2018, resulting in the creation of a new set of awards, the Frederick Soddy Awards, to fund fieldwork and expeditions undertaken by schools and students. These grants are now known as the Frederick Soddy Schools Award scheme.
The Geographical Association previously supported the Frederick Soddy Schools Award on behalf of the Frederick Soddy Trust. Schools frequently struggle to effectively compete for funding from the major grant-giving organisations or to devote their own resources to field research. The Frederick Soddy Schools Awards are designed to promote field studies by offering funding expressly for this type of study.
Awards:
Awards are made of £200 to £600, and cannot support the costs of physical resources.
Eligibility:
Open to teachers leading groups of school pupils.
Applications are welcomed from UK and Ireland schools planning fieldwork involving a
strong element of human geography.
Preference will be given to schools which have not been supported in the previous year’s
awards.
