Employment Opportunities in Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (Internship, Volunteer, and Fellowship Programs)

The Internship Program is a learning opportunity designed to attract brilliant young women and men who are eager to offer their fresh perspectives, creative ideas, and cutting-edge research in FAO’s disciplines. The Internship Program allows chosen students participating in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree program, as well as recent graduates, to augment their academic knowledge with practical job experience in a subject linked to FAO’s mission. It will help them grasp the FAO’s mandate and programs better. Simultaneously, the Program offers FAO with skilled professionals specializing in essential subjects related to FAO’s Strategic Framework and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The duration of an internship assignment is between 3 and 11 months.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality: Candidates must be FAO Members’ nationals (Afghanistan included).
Education: Candidates must be students or recent graduates enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at a legitimate educational institution at the time of application.  SDGs
Languages: Candidates must be fluent in at least one FAO official language (English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, or Russian). Knowledge of a second official language of the FAO will be regarded as advantageous.
Age: Candidates must be between the ages of 21 and 30 at the commencement of their internship (i.e., the training should start before the candidate turns 31).
Skills: Candidates must be able to adapt to an international multicultural setting, have strong communication skills, and be familiar with basic computer programs.
Resident/visa status: Before the commencement of the internship assignment, candidates must have a proper residence or immigration status in the country of assignment.

Family relations: Candidates having family members (defined as a sibling, sister, mother, or father) working for FAO under any sort of contract are ineligible for the Internship Program.

2. Volunteer Program

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Regular Voluntary Program allows individuals to offer their volunteer actions, where appropriate, to assist FAO’s work about FAO’s Strategic Framework and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The Program aggressively and strategically mobilizes broad-based volunteer services of FAO Member countries to contribute to the abolition of hunger, malnutrition, and food
