EEP Africa 2023 Call for Innovative Early-stage Clean Energy Projects (up to €1,000,000)

Do you run a sustainable energy firm, a startup, or a social enterprise in Southern or Eastern Africa? Apply right away! EEP Africa welcomes firms, start-ups, and social enterprises in Southern and Eastern Africa to submit applications for innovative early-stage sustainable energy projects under active development.

The Energy and Environment Partnership Trust Fund (EEP Africa) provides early-stage grant funding for locally led innovative clean energy projects, technology, and business and delivery models in Southern and East Africa. Since 2010, EEP Africa has invested more than EUR 60 million in over 270 innovative projects, resulting in the creation of over 11,600 jobs, the improvement of energy access for over 5 million people, and the avoidance of 1.8 million tonnes of CO2e.

Funding:

  • Applicants can apply for grants and repayable grants between EUR 200,000 —1,000,000.  The minimum required co-financing is 30-50% of the total project budget depending on the project phase and company maturity.

Eligibility:

  • Private companies, start-ups and social enterprises from any country with early-stage projects in one or more of the EEP Africa target countries (Botswana, Burundi, Eswatini, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe) are welcome to apply.
  • All applicants must be registered legal entities for at least six (6) months prior to the EoI opening date.
  • Applicants can be registered in any country but need to demonstrate local engagement.
  • Applications from women entrepreneurs and locally led organisations are strongly encouraged.

Application:

The application process is a two-stage process; Expression of Interest (EoI) and a detailed Full Proposal. After the EOI has been submitted, EEP Africa will hold a virtual bootcamp followed by pitching sessions for those applicants that are longlisted. Based on the pitch-interviews, applicants are shortlisted to proceed to full proposal stage.

All proposals must be submitted through the EEP Africa online application platform. Proposals that are sent through e-mail will not be considered. The deadline for all applications is 12 May 2023 at 12:00 (Helsinki time, GMT +3).
