Climate Tracker Climate Journalism Mentoring Program for Journalists 2024

Deadline: 9th of May, 2024

Climate Tracker is proud to present the sixth cycle of its Climate Journalism Mentoring Program, exclusively for Argentina, Mexico and Brazil, within the framework of the imminent G20. During this cycle they will do a few different things.

In this training initiative, each participant faces the challenge of creating three high-impact stories about the energy transition in Latin America. In these texts, the common challenges of three Latin American giants: Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, seen as the largest emitters of greenhouse gases in the region, will be addressed.

The journalists will delve into key issues ranging from fossil fuels to renewable energy, examining public policies, energy projects, finance and socio-environmental conflicts, among other crucial aspects, coinciding with the G20 energy ministers’ meeting, which will be held on November 18 and 19 in Rio de Janeiro.

Phases:

Phase 1:

Participants will be immersed in an interesting live discussion (approximately 60 minutes) about the energy transition and climate change in their countries. They will be joined by local referents, as well as former fellows of our mentoring program, who will share key tips on how to address these issues.

These are the dates of the discussions:

  • Argentina: Monday, May 13 at 18:00 (local time)
  • Mexico: Wednesday, May 15 at 3:00 p.m. (local time)
  • Brazil: Thursday, May 16 at 6:00 p.m. (local time).

At the end of each live conversation, participants will be challenged to submit a journalistic story pitch to be developed during the mentoring program.

The Climate Tracker team will select two proposals per country, to form an outstanding team of six journalists in Argentina, Mexico and Brazil.

Phase 2:

The six selected journalists will be immersed in an exciting collective and hands-on learning experience between the months of June and August 2024. During this time, they will benefit from the following:
