The APF/Division 37 Diane J. Willis Early Career Award 2023 is currently accepting applications. The Diane J. Willis Early Career Award is established in Dr. Willis’ honor and pays tribute to her lifetime of work advocating for families and children. Clinical child, pediatric, developmental, and family psychology are just a few of the numerous fields that Dr. Willis’ work crosses.
She has altered policy at the local, national, and worldwide levels through her writings, clinical practice, mentorship, and teaching. She has fought for children’s rights at the UN, established services promoting the wellbeing of kids with developmental disabilities, chronic illnesses, and those who have experienced maltreatment, and created prevention and early intervention programs for Native American kids living on reservations.
Award:
The APF/Division 37 Diane J. Willis Early Career Award:
- Advances public understanding of mental health and improve the well-being of children and
families through policy and service - Encourages promising early career psychologists to continue work in this area
- Comes with a $2,000 financial award and $1,000 in travel expenses to attend APA
Convention
Eligibility:
Applicants must:
- Be psychologists with an EdD, PsyD, or PhD from accredited universities.
- Be no more than 10 years postdoctoral.
- Self-nominations are permitted.
Evalaution Criteria:
Nominations will be evaluated on:
- Conformance with stated program goals and qualifications stated above
- Magnitude of professional accomplishment in advancing public understanding of mental health and improves the well-being of children and families through policy and service
