Africa Matters Initiative (AMI) ShE is Empowered Programme 2023

Young African women and girls can participate in the one-year ShE is Empowered online development programme, which focuses on mentoring, soft skill development, social entrepreneurship, activism, and African feminisms.
In order to address a social issue in their neighbourhood, ShE Leaders develop and carry out community engagement projects throughout the programme. Participants leave the programme with a solid network of young African women leaders, mentors, a certificate of completion, fresh knowledge, and the help of the AMI team to carry out their community engagement projects over the long term.
Benefits
- This programme is free. AMI will provide data to successful applicants to attend the online sessions and seed funding to assist with the execution of community engagement projects. However, if the cost of a project exceeds the amount of seed funding, the programme participant will be required to fundraise the remaining amount. Tips and advice on fundraising will be shared during the programme.
- After successfully completing the ShE programme, you will join the Alumni Network of AMI Ambassadors and Leaders. As an alumna of the programme you can become a mentor to incoming ShE Leaders, Attend and/or co-host AMI-related events and sessions in your country, continue your work with Africa Matters as an AMI Intern; facilitate Africa Matters flagship programmes; become a ShE Application Reviewer and/or Interviewer, attend Future Residential Summit and/or AMI related events (if funding is available) and so much more.
Eligibility
- You must be a woman or girl between the ages of 15-29;
- Be from one of the following countries: Ghana, Malawi, Egypt, Botswana, Kenya, Tunisia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Sierra Leone.
Application
Application will close on November 6, 2022 at 23:59 CAT. Once applications close, the AMI Team and ShE Alumni will review the applications and invite successful applicants to an interview in early-January 2023. The results of the interviews will be communicated via email, and selected applicants will be invited to join the ShE Cohort in late January 2023.
