The Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO) is a non-profit, non-governmental international organization founded in 2018.
Founding members include 37 scientific institutions, universities, and international organizations worldwide. The objectives of ANSO are to advance wider S&T cooperation and communication, as well as regional and global capacity in science and technology, human livelihoods, and wellbeing.
With the intention of developing young scientists from all over the world, the ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents (hereinafter referred to as the ANSO Scholarship) was formally launched in 2019. Additionally, the ANSO Scholarship provides funding each year for 300 PhD students and 200 Master’s students to attend the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), or other institutions affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) around China.
The ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship, a subcategory of the ANSO Scholarship, will be formally introduced this year. In line with TWAS/UNESCO’s priorities, two target groups—the least developed nations (LDCs) and women—will get special focus. TWAS/UNESCO will choose up to 40 PhD candidates from underdeveloped nations each year for this category.
The primary sponsor of the ANSO Scholarship is CAS, the important founding member of the organization. The ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship recipients get financing in part from TWAS and UNESCO, two of the organization’s founding members. Everyone who is interested in working with ANSO to develop a more varied scholarship program is encouraged to join.
Eligibility:
Firstly, Eligible applicants should NOT hold Chinese citizenship;
Secondly, Eligible applicants should be proficient in English or Chinese;
Thirdly, For Master’s program applicants: you should be born after 1st January 1993 (inclusive);
Moreover, For PhD program applicants: you should be born after 1st January 1988 (inclusive);
Additionally, Eligible applicants should meet the admission criteria for international students of USTC/UCAS;
Then, Eligible applicants should NOT take up other assignments during the period of his/her scholarship.
Lastly, If you are currently pursuing a master’s degree at any university/institution in China, you are NOT eligible for the master’s program of this scholarship. If you are currently pursuing a doctoral degree at any university/institution in China, you are NOT eligible for the PhD program of this scholarship. Otherwise, you will be disqualified from admission and the situation will be reported to your
current university/institution.
You are NOT allowed to apply for the ANSO Scholarship in both USTC and UCAS simultaneously, otherwise you will be disqualified from admission.
Application:
The 2023 ANSO Scholarship is open for application on 20th October 2022 (The exact dates might be slightly different for USTC and UCAS, please check their websites for details).
File and submit your application in the USTC/UCAS admission system as requested before the deadline.
When applying:
Firstly choose “the ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents” in your application.
Secondly if you want to be considered a potential candidate for the ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship, check the box as instructed in the application system.
